Sauron The Deceiver by DanikYaroslavTomyn Sauron The Deceiver by DanikYaroslavTomyn
Sauron in the ethereal guise of his elven form, which he used to learn how to smith and create the rings of power along with the one ring. In The Hobbit he's briefly mentioned as The Necromancer.

This was my entry for The Hobbit contest, it didn't make it into the semi-finals but I'm not sad about it, it was nice just to make a piece and have it seen by some of the great concept artists who worked on The Lord of the Rings series.

Very impressive! The blurriness and shadow detail work kind of gives it a 3D like effect........just watched the Desolation of Smaug in 3D last week and this totally reminds me of that.I really like it and you should really be proud of your work.

Neither elf or man. Like Gandalf and Saruman, and Radagast he was a Maia. Maiar are the servants of Valar, and both Valar and Maiar are together known as Ainur, the first powerful spirits that Eru Ilúvatar (the god of Middle-Earth) first created. Ainur have a shape shifting ability and can even more invisible at will, though they may not change gender and they cannot shift shape at all times (either by choice of punishment).
So, in other words, Gandalf, Saruman, Radagast and Sauron (as well as his master, the fallen Vala Morgoth) can be considered like Odin, deities in disguise. I hope this explains the mythology in a nutshell. :)

This is one of the best Annatar depictions I've ever seen, quite close to what I imagined in fact. Kudos!

:wow: This is one of the most amazing and original LOTR pictures I've ever seen! I couldn't have imagined a more perfect likeness of Sauron's character! On the surface he's utterly beautiful, but then you him for what he truly is: dark, evil and corrupted. It's even mirrored in his expression. At first his smile seems strong and gentle, but the longer you look the more it looks like a subtle, cunning little smirk.

I love the evil fire/glowing effect in his eye and how his skin almost seems to be burnt along the "dark" side of his face. I totally agree with the person that loved how his armor is like a subdued, more Elven version of what he wore in the movie. And that stunning white hair... *jawdrop*

Truly magnificent work all around!

I tried to base the armor off the elvish armor seen in the film along with Sauron's personal touches, it came out rather dark but elegant so as not to give himself away. =D

*Takes a bow* Thank you kindly =P, sometimes I do think I made the visage of Sauron's true form a bit too subtle which makes it a bit difficult to distinguish without the addition of the title.

the prismatic distortion is a bit odd (don't know if that's actually in the image or if that happened somewhere your creation of the image and me seeing it on my screen) but the concept is just fantastic. It's one of the best renderings of Sauron I've seen, because it encompasses both the beautiful Maia he could pretend to be, and the horror he actually was. Amazing.

Thank you very much, I'm very glad that the concept came together well enough for fans to appreciate it. The prismatic distortion is my doing ^^; I accidentally pushed it a bit too far, a mistake I've definitely made sure not to repeat in my future paintings.
