Sauron The Deceiver by DanikYaroslavTomyn Sauron The Deceiver by DanikYaroslavTomyn
Sauron in the ethereal guise of his elven form, which he used to learn how to smith and create the rings of power along with the one ring. In The Hobbit he's briefly mentioned as The Necromancer.

This was my entry for The Hobbit contest, it didn't make it into the semi-finals but I'm not sad about it, it was nice just to make a piece and have it seen by some of the great concept artists who worked on The Lord of the Rings series.

Very impressive! The blurriness and shadow detail work kind of gives it a 3D like effect........just watched the Desolation of Smaug in 3D last week and this totally reminds me of that.I really like it and you should really be proud of your work.

Neither elf or man. Like Gandalf and Saruman, and Radagast he was a Maia. Maiar are the servants of Valar, and both Valar and Maiar are together known as Ainur, the first powerful spirits that Eru Ilúvatar (the god of Middle-Earth) first created. Ainur have a shape shifting ability and can even more invisible at will, though they may not change gender and they cannot shift shape at all times (either by choice of punishment).
So, in other words, Gandalf, Saruman, Radagast and Sauron (as well as his master, the fallen Vala Morgoth) can be considered like Odin, deities in disguise. I hope this explains the mythology in a nutshell. :)
